Leeds United no longer need to pay Jack Harrison’s wages next season, providing a significant relief, according to Paul Robinson.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Robinson highlighted how this development aids the club in meeting PSR guidelines by Sunday.
Harrison’s return to Everton, with Everton agreeing to cover 100% of his salary next season in lieu of a loan fee, has greatly benefited Leeds’ financial situation [The Athletic, 19 June].
Leeds are looking to offload several players returning from loans this pre-season, with only Brenden Aaronson expected to reintegrate after his stint at Union Berlin.
Robinson commended Leeds United for their strategic move in offloading Harrison’s wages and shared his thoughts on Aaronson’s potential return.
“It’s another big wage off the bill for Leeds,” he said. “People forget that FFP and PSR are not just about transfer fees, but wages as well.
“Aston Villa faced issues with this last season when they renewed Ollie Watkins’ contract. Leeds must balance their wage bill along with their transfer dealings.
“I think [Daniel Farke] mentioned that Brenden Aaronson would be the only one from last season’s loan players to reintegrate into the squad. He performed decently in the Championship, though he was lightweight in the Premier League.
“But he could be like a new signing for the manager to work with.”
