Former Foxes striker Alan Smith believes that Leicester City is “in safe hands” with Steve Cooper at the helm.
Cooper has signed a three-year deal to replace Enzo Maresca and lead Leicester City back to the Premier League. He is already collaborating with the club’s hierarchy to strengthen the squad for their return to top-flight football.
Cooper, 44, previously led Nottingham Forest to promotion from the Championship and secured a 16th-place finish in the 2022/23 season, the same season Leicester were relegated. Despite this success, he was replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo by Forest’s owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Speaking to Prime Casino, Smith praised Cooper’s appointment, saying, “I think it’s a good move by Leicester. Cooper is a good manager. It was tough for him at Forest under their owner, and perhaps Nuno is experiencing the same challenges now. However, Cooper did an excellent job getting Forest promoted and keeping them in the Premier League in their first season back. He is a talented coach.”
Smith added, “Leicester is in safe hands with Cooper. I think they are a good match, and it’s a really good appointment.”
