Martin Dubravka admits he is uncertain about his future at Newcastle United as the transfer window progresses.
Dubravka recently represented Slovakia in the Euros and was in goal during Jude Bellingham’s last-minute overhead kick that helped England advance to the quarter-finals.
While Dubravka was dealing with disappointment in Gelsenkirchen, Newcastle completed deals for two new goalkeepers. Greece international Odysseas Vlachodimos joined from Nottingham Forest, and veteran John Ruddy signed a one-year contract after leaving Birmingham City.
With Nick Pope and Mark Gillespie also in the squad, Dubravka’s departure seems likely. The 35-year-old, in the final year of his contract, has been linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic.
“I have no idea,” Dubravka said about his future. “I need to speak with the manager to understand the plan for me. It’s difficult because I’ve been focused on the national team.”
Reflecting on Slovakia’s near-victory against England, Dubravka noted the heartbreak of conceding Bellingham’s equalizer and Harry Kane’s header in extra time. “We played brilliantly and deserved more, but that goal changed everything. Credit to Jude, he’s a special player,” he said.
