NEWS NOW: European clubs reportedly submit opening bid for £25.8m Tottenham star who started 11 games for Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham are aiming to sell some players before bringing in new additions to strengthen the team. AC Milan have reportedly made their first move to Tottenham with an opening bid to sign full-back Emerson Royal this summer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the bid is below the €20 million Spurs value the player at. Di Marzio adds that the next 10 days will be decisive as Milan plan their next steps in pursuing the 25-year-old.

Last season, Emerson was second choice to Pedro Porro, who became a regular starter under Ange Postecoglou. Despite being relegated to the bench, Emerson still played in 22 league games, starting 11, as Spurs finished 5th and secured Europa League football.

Tottenham signed Brazilian defender Emerson Royal from Barcelona for £25.8 million on a five-year contract in 2021. He had shown promise under Antonio Conte, who often used him as a wing-back. However, with Postecoglou’s attacking style requiring players to step into midfield and create overloads, it became clear that the manager preferred Spanish defender Porro.

Tottenham are looking to free up their wage bill and have already agreed to terminate Tanguy Ndombele’s contract. Players like Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, and Ryan Sessegnon have also been allowed to leave.

Incoming players include the young Archie Gray and German forward Timo Werner, who arrived on loan midway through last season and secured another season-long loan deal. Swedish sensation Lucas Bergvall, signed in January, is also joining pre-season. With Europa League football ahead, Spurs are looking to build on what was an impressive first season under manager Postecoglou.
