In the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that negotiations between Al Ittihad and Villa are at an advanced stage, including discussions on the payment structure.
Diaby, 25, joined the Premier League club last season but is set to leave after an impressive debut campaign. Villa is negotiating a deal worth over £45 million to sell Diaby at a profit. Diaby has already agreed to personal terms with Al Ittihad after receiving a substantial offer.
Given the importance of PSR and FFP, this deal is seen as a positive step for Villa to balance their finances amid new arrivals. However, Football Insider noted that Villa still owes Bayer Leverkusen more than half of the money they paid for Diaby last summer.
Selling Moussa Diaby will pave the way for new signings at Villa Park. Villa has worked hard to comply with PSR earlier this summer and is now preparing to bring in several new players ahead of next season.
Despite Diaby’s 19 goal contributions last season, which helped Villa secure Champions League football, his sale will facilitate these new signings. Football Insider reported that Amadou Onana is set to join the club this summer for £50 million. Jaden Philogene is also expected to move to Villa Park in this window for £30 million, filling the void left by Diaby.
Diaby might not be the only high-profile departure from Villa Park this summer, as Chelsea is considering a swap deal for Ollie Watkins. The Blues are looking for a first-choice striker and are reportedly willing to offer Conor Gallagher plus cash to secure the deal.
