LATEST UPDATE ;Tottenham Hotspur are backed to sign a 'ruthless character' who is expected to thrive alongside Son Heung-min.

Son Heung-min is entering his second season as Tottenham Hotspur captain, hoping it will culminate in winning a trophy.

The South Korean star has been with the club for nearly a decade, and silverware would validate his impressive goals and on-field performances.

During their time in the Premier League, Harry Kane and Son formed a remarkable partnership. However, Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer has since departed for Bayern Munich.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs showed improvement from Kane’s final season at the club, scoring more goals (70 to 74). This surprised many, as some had predicted that Tottenham would struggle and perhaps decline further after Kane’s departure.

Paul Merson reversed his opinion about Postecoglou’s Tottenham midway through last season, but now the team must continue progressing.

Tottenham’s acquisition of Archie Gray is a positive step forward, but the club still needs a true number nine. Not necessarily to replace Kane, as that’s impossible, but to find a striker who can integrate well with the existing squad.

Tony Cascarino is backing Ivan Toney to fill that role, but he also believes Toney could be a fit for West Ham United, as he mentioned on talkSPORT.

Sources have told HITC about Tottenham’s interest in Toney, with Arsenal and Atletico Madrid also keen on the England international.

Toney was part of the England squad at this summer’s Euros, but Cascarino believes his transfer fee will be around £40 million. He explained why Toney would thrive alongside players like Son and Brennan Johnson.

### Ivan Toney and Son Heung-min at Tottenham

“Good question really,” said Cascarino about whether Toney suits Tottenham or West Ham. “I personally think Toney could fit both, as long as you play a runner off him.

“When you are buying a centre-forward that leads the line, useful with flick-ons, holding the ball up, and bringing players into play, you are looking for movement beyond. Both clubs have that. They have the runners beyond.

“Bowen can do it for West Ham. Son can do that and others. Brennan Johnson, he can run beyond. They have that. I wouldn’t say one is a preference for me. I don’t think he will go for £50 million. I would go more likely £40 million. There might be add-ons to get to £50 million. What’s Ivan now? 28? There is a player there you can utilize and get a lot from. A useful player for somebody.”

### Ivan Toney is Ready for the Step Up

Toney’s ban last season for betting breaches disrupted his rhythm and form. His return in January meant he lacked consistency in his game.

Despite this, Gareth Southgate still selected him for part of England’s Euro 2024 squad, even though his form didn’t quite merit it.

Nevertheless, the 28-year-old is still highly regarded, and his previous performances in the Premier League are well remembered.

Toney has been described as a ‘ruthless character’ and has been tipped to join Arsenal. He could be one of the late moves in the transfer window.
