Crystal Palace has experienced a mixed summer so far. While they lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, they have also welcomed Chadi Riad and Daichi Kamada to the team.
Additionally, Eberechi Eze has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, but the funds from Olise’s transfer give Oliver Glasner a good chance to retain the talented Englishman for the upcoming season.
According to recent reports, Glasner might soon have the perfect teammate for Eze. Crystal Palace is keen on signing Sporting CP star Marcus Edwards, as reported by GIVEMESPORT. The Eagles’ initial offer of around £13 million was rejected, with Sporting valuing Edwards closer to £25 million due to a 35% sell-on clause owed to Tottenham Hotspur.
Finances are not the only challenge, as both Spurs and Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr are also interested in Edwards. Despite the complexity and cost of the deal, Edwards’ impressive performances in Portugal make him a valuable target worth pursuing.
Why Edwards would be an excellent teammate for Eze
With Olise now in Germany, much of Crystal Palace’s creative and attacking responsibility will fall on Eze. If Glasner can secure Edwards, it would alleviate some of that pressure. Edwards’ ability to contribute offensively would make him a valuable teammate for Eze.
Despite a less productive season last year, Edwards still managed six goals and nine assists in 44 appearances, averaging a goal involvement every 158.2 minutes. In previous seasons, he tallied 26 goal involvements in 51 games and 18 in 2258 minutes, demonstrating his consistent offensive prowess.
If Edwards can replicate even part of his attacking output at Crystal Palace, it would significantly reduce the burden on Eze, allowing him to perform more consistently. Securing Edwards for around £25 million would be a smart move for Palace, providing a quality attacking player to complement Eze’s skills.
