Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make several new signings this summer, but one rival manager seems to have hindered their chances of securing a particular target.
Spurs have already signed Archie Gray and Timo Werner and have Lucas Bergvall joining the squad. However, Ange Postecoglou wants to bring in more players who are familiar with the league and can make an immediate impact.
Finding such players is challenging given the competition among clubs. One player Tottenham are interested in is Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. Newcastle is also keen on McTominay, making him a highly sought-after player.
However, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has downplayed any potential transfer of McTominay amid links to Tottenham. Speaking to The Evening Standard, Ten Hag expressed his desire to keep the Scot.
“We have very good players so there will always be interest from other clubs,” Ten Hag said. “When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very well for Scotland, then there will be interest. But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad. What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”
McTominay was praised last season for his ‘fantastic’ performances, and United reportedly value him at around £30 million. While that fee wouldn’t be an issue for Tottenham, Ten Hag’s comments suggest the deal might now be more difficult for Spurs to finalize.
