"Quiet Intriguing"- jarrad Branthwaite reportedly 'changes mind' over Everton negotiations as Man Utd get chance to strike

Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly demanding that Everton match Manchester United’s £160,000-a-week offer as the Toffees prepare a new contract for the defender. United has made two unsuccessful bids for the 22-year-old, who Everton values at £70 million. United’s highest bid was £50 million. Branthwaite emerged as a key player under Sean Dyche last season and is seen as having a promising future for both club and country.

Everton, keen to secure his future, are looking to offer him a new deal. Branthwaite still has three years left on his current contract, reportedly worth around £70,000-a-week. According to the Daily Mail, negotiations for a higher salary are expected at the end of the transfer window, but Branthwaite is prepared to reject new terms if Everton does not come close to matching United’s offer.

This potential standoff comes at a critical time for Everton, following the collapse of takeover talks with the Friedkin Group. Despite this setback, the club is hopeful of finding new buyers.

Initially, United saw Branthwaite as a summer signing target, but they have cooled their interest after sporting director Dan Ashworth’s conversation with Everton’s Kevin Thelwell. During this discussion, Everton reiterated their desire to stick to their £70 million valuation. United’s new minority owners are committed to a transfer strategy that avoids overspending on players, even after spending £52 million on Leny Yoro. They are still in the market for a centre-back, full-back, midfielder, and forward, depending on departures.

Branthwaite would be an ideal addition to United’s defense, but Everton remains firm on their price. Meanwhile, Everton’s pre-season training has begun, with Branthwaite participating. The club continues to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season and is close to finalizing a loan deal for Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom.
