In a recent interview with Football Insider, pundit Alan Hutton suggested that Tottenham Hotspur should consider signing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. Hutton mentioned that Chiesa, with a price tag of £25 million, could be a more cost-effective option compared to players like Eberechi Eze, who might cost around £60 million.
Hutton noted, “Although Eze can play in various positions, it seems Spurs are focusing on strengthening their wide areas with players who can influence the game, make things happen, and score goals. Chiesa is the kind of player who keeps defenders on their toes with his constant movement and ability to make runs behind them.”
He also emphasized that Tottenham’s interest in Chiesa might depend on their budget and other potential targets, including whether they are looking for a new striker or if Richarlison might leave the club. Hutton concluded, “We just have to wait and see.”
Chiesa had a solid season at Juventus, scoring ten goals and providing three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. While he showed flashes of brilliance, his consistency in Serie A was sometimes lacking. The 26-year-old averaged 2.3 shots, 1.6 key passes, and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A and had a pass accuracy of 77.3% (stats via WhoScored).
Chiesa is known for his dribbling skills and ability to make runs into the penalty area. He can contribute crucial goals and create opportunities for his teammates. Primarily a left-winger, Chiesa can also play on the right or as a striker if needed.
At 26, Chiesa is entering his prime years, making him a promising fit for Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s long-term plans. Therefore, Spurs would be wise to pursue him in the current transfer window.
