The good news for Tottenham is that a separate report from talkSPORT suggests Chelsea are seeking a fee above £50 million, while Atlético Madrid are not willing to spend more than £40 million. This leaves an opportunity for Levy and his team to secure Gallagher’s services.
Signing Gallagher would not come cheap, but given his impressive form last season and the potential partnership with Maddison, it could be a worthwhile investment.

There are two main reasons why Gallagher would be an excellent teammate for Maddison, which also explain why he would be a valuable asset for Postecoglou.
First, Gallagher’s tireless energy and ability to play a more defensive, disruptive style in midfield would allow Maddison to focus on attacking play. According to FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe’s top five leagues, Gallagher ranks in the top 1% for interceptions, top 4% for tackles, top 8% for clearances, and top 11% for blocks among attacking midfielders and wingers, based on his 21 starts last season.
Moreover, despite being a hard worker in midfield, Gallagher also contributes to attacking phases. In 50 appearances last season, the 24-year-old scored seven goals and provided nine assists, averaging a goal involvement every 3.12 games. While not extraordinary, this contribution would be highly beneficial for the team.
Ultimately, despite the high fee and lack of glamour associated with his name, Gallagher would be a valuable signing for Spurs. His relentless work rate and underrated attacking abilities would make him an outstanding partner for Maddison.
