Frank McAvennie believes N’Golo Kante would be the “signing of the summer” if West Ham can secure a deal with Al-Ittihad.
According to Sebastien Vidal [20 July], the Hammers are preparing a new £33 million bid for the French midfielder, having already had a £25 million offer rejected.
Though the 33-year-old former Chelsea star is reportedly content in Saudi Arabia [Ben Jacobs], McAvennie has encouraged the London club to finalize a deal before the summer transfer window closes.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “It would be a fantastic signing. Kante is exactly the kind of player we need; he stops everything. It would be a great addition for West Ham.
“Kante for £33 million? Absolutely. He’s a remarkable talent. He was outstanding at the Euros, even after playing in Saudi Arabia. Signing him would be a dream come true for me. He’s never let down Chelsea or France. It would be the best signing of the summer if we got him.”

Any team would be fortunate to sign the Frenchman this summer after his impressive performance at Euro 2024 with France, despite playing in the Saudi Pro League for the past year.
While some fans have concerns about his match fitness and the pace of football in Saudi Arabia, he proved his abilities during the tournament.
With Edson Alvarez’s injury at the London Stadium [Knees Up Mother Brown], Kante could seamlessly fit into Julen Lopetegui’s starting XI next season and potentially be the signing of the summer.
Having made nearly 300 appearances at Stamford Bridge and 40 appearances for Leicester City during their title-winning season, Kante would be an exceptional addition.
