GIVEMESPORT reports that Tottenham has continued to show interest in French prodigy Desire Doue. The club has been actively trying to attract him to North London, showcasing the path to the first team. However, due to strong competition, they have found it challenging to secure his commitment.
While no specific price is mentioned, previous reports suggest that Stade Rennais would sell the player for around £42 million. Despite the cost and difficulty of the deal, Levy and his team should pursue Doue, as he could be an ideal replacement for Son in the long term.
Why Doue Could Be the Perfect Successor to Son
Though Son Heung-min, at 32, remains capable of leading Tottenham—scoring 17 goals and providing ten assists in 36 appearances last season—the team needs to plan for the future. According to an article from The Athletic, wingers typically peak around age 26, so it’s wise to prepare for life after Son.
Despite being only 19, Doue has shown great promise, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 42 first-team appearances last season, including 13 on the left wing. Data analyst Ben Mattinson has called him an “entertainer,” and according to FBref, he ranks in the top 6% of attacking midfielders and wingers in Europe’s top five leagues for progressive passes and successful take-ons per 90 minutes.
While Son is still performing at a high level, Doue has the potential to eventually take over the left side of Tottenham’s attack. Therefore, Levy and his team should do everything possible to bring him to North London this summer.
