Tottenham’s efforts to enhance their pool of talented young players seem to have fallen short in their pursuit of a French prodigy.
The club recently signed 18-year-old South Korean Min-hyeok Yang, who has committed to a contract until 2030. However, the winger won’t officially join the team until January 2025.
Yang joins other young talents like Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray in moving to north London this summer. Tottenham already boasts a strong group of promising teenagers.
However, it appears they may miss out on another highly sought-after talent, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Rennes midfielder Désiré Doué has been linked with Tottenham since the summer transfer window opened, but a deal now seems unlikely.
Romano reported on “The Debrief” that Doué is more likely to join Bayern Munich or PSG. He stated, “I think he will not go to Spurs; it will be between PSG and Bayern. Bayern has already presented a new bid of €55 million, and PSG’s offer is around €60 million, which is what Rennes is asking for. The transfer could happen this week, but it’s not guaranteed yet.”
Doué might have had a better chance of getting playing time at Tottenham, considering Ange Postecoglou’s tendency to give young players opportunities. Breaking into the first team could be more challenging at Bayern or PSG.
Despite this setback, Tottenham remains focused on strengthening Postecoglou’s squad. Juventus winger Federico Chiesa is a potential target, with the north London club strongly linked to the 26-year-old Italy international. Chiesa, who has less than 12 months remaining on his contract, could be available for a bargain £26 million.
Last season, Chiesa scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for Juventus.
