Everton have completed their fourth signing of the summer in a busy transfer window. Despite concerns about potential PSR violations, the club has managed to balance the books effectively.
Manager Sean Dyche has been rewarded for a strong finish to the 2023/24 season with four new additions to the squad. The latest signing is Jake O’Brien, who joined from Lyon after an agreement was reached last weekend. O’Brien has shared details of his discussions with Dyche and sporting director Kevin Thelwell before moving to Goodison Park.
In an interview with Everton TV, O’Brien revealed, “Speaking to Kevin and the manager, the project they have for me is exciting. It’s a very historic club, so it wasn’t a tough choice, really. There’s been interest for a while, and I think it shows what they think of you. It’s a very exciting move.”
Everton, having covered all major outfield positions, are now reportedly competing with two Serie A clubs for Wilfried Gnonto. After selling Ben Godfrey, the club needed a new centre-back and added the 6ft 8in O’Brien.
However, despite ongoing links to various players, Dyche has expressed concerns about further signings due to financial constraints. Following a defeat to Coventry City, Dyche said, “I don’t think so with the finances that we have got, or haven’t, as the case may be. But we will have to wait and see.”
The uncertainty stems from the ongoing takeover issues with Farhad Moshiri. While Everton is believed to have sufficient funds in the short term, it’s unclear if they can make more acquisitions in this transfer window.
