The Magpies have reportedly settled on a £10 million fee with £5 million in add-ons for the 20-year-old, pending personal terms and a medical. Additionally, progress has been made defensively with ongoing talks with Crystal Palace regarding the signing of Marc Guehi. The England defender, who impressed at Euro 2024, is believed to be open to a new challenge this summer.
However, when asked about Osula and Guehi, Howe was reserved in his comments.
“Our efforts in the transfer market are ongoing,” he said. “I’m not up to date with all the details, but I know we are trying. Hopefully, we can bring you news soon. I’m not going to discuss individual deals.”
Howe and his squad are set to return to England on Sunday after a week in Tokyo. They won 4-1 against Urawa Red Diamonds on Wednesday at the Saitama Stadium but lost 2-0 to Yokohama F. Marinos at the Japan National Stadium.
Osula is expected to be announced as Newcastle’s fifth senior summer signing next week, following John Ruddy, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Lloyd Kelly, and Lewis Hall, whose loan from Chelsea was made permanent for an initial £28 million.
However, their pursuit of Guehi remains challenging. Crystal Palace is reportedly demanding at least £65 million for the England defender, with several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United, also expressing interest.
