**Tottenham Hotspur’s First Pre-Season Defeat Against Bayern Munich**
Tottenham Hotspur experienced their first defeat of this summer’s pre-season against Bayern Munich.
Ange Postecoglou’s side had been impressive in their friendlies, winning every game before this match against the German giants, but they were unable to maintain their streak and came away with a loss.
However, pre-season results are not crucial, and it’s likely that Postecoglou wasn’t overly concerned about the outcome.
Postecoglou even commended many of his players after the game. Yves Bissouma joined his manager in praising one of their teammates.
**Yves Bissouma Praises Emerson Royal**
Emerson Royal started the game on the bench but was brought on in the second half.
The Brazilian was once again deployed in central defense due to Tottenham’s current shortage of options in that position.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have not yet returned from their holidays after participating in the Copa America and Euros respectively.
Despite being linked with a move away from Tottenham, Emerson has continued to give his best whenever he is on the pitch.
Emerson performed admirably at centre-back against Bayern Munich. His display was commendable.
Bissouma, who also came on as a substitute in the second half, was particularly impressed with Emerson.
Sharing a picture of Emerson on his Instagram Story, Bissouma wrote: “This guy is a soldier!”
**Postecoglou on Emerson’s Performance at Centre-Back**
Emerson hasn’t been a regular starter under Postecoglou since the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian has stepped up in response to injuries within the team, playing across the backline to assist where needed.
During the pre-season tour, Emerson once again had to fill in at centre-half, and Postecoglou acknowledged his concerns about using players out of position.
However, he praised Emerson, as well as Jamie Donley and Oliver Skipp, for their performances in central defense.
Postecoglou said, according to Football London: “It’s probably been my one concern coming into it because you are playing players out of position. The games can become a little bit unrealistic.
“But I thought the guys who had to fill in this whole tour have been really good. Skippy, Jamie Donley, and Emerson playing at centre-back.
“So I think it’s allowed us at least to get something out of the games because I think if those positions didn’t work out, it would have been hard for us to sort of analyse.
“But I think they’ve all contributed to us trying to get as much as we can out of this camp.”
