### Newcastle United Firm on Anthony Gordon Amid Liverpool Interest
A resurfaced clip shows Anthony Gordon picking Frank Lampard over Steven Gerrard, adding fuel to the ongoing Liverpool speculation.
Newcastle United have made it clear that the 23-year-old is not for sale this summer. Last month, Darren Eales confirmed that Gordon, along with key players Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, will remain with the club.
Speculation about Gordon leaving arose after Newcastle faced Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) issues before the June 30 deadline. The Daily Mail reported that Newcastle was considering a deal with Liverpool while Gordon was on England duty.
Instead, the Magpies sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson for a combined £68 million. Gordon, who was given an extended break due to Euro 2024, has yet to feature in pre-season, but rumors linking him with Liverpool persist.
Earlier this year, Gordon, who was named Newcastle’s Player of the Season for 2023-24, shared that Steven Gerrard was his “football hero” growing up. He told The Overlap: “Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up. Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.”
However, clips have surfaced showing Gordon choosing Chelsea legend Lampard over Gerrard in a quick-fire question game. He also picked Alan Shearer over England teammate Harry Kane, likely pleasing Newcastle fans.
Gordon is set to return to Newcastle training soon and could participate in this weekend’s Sela Weekender. The Magpies begin their Premier League season in 12 days against newly-promoted Southampton.
