JUST IN Spurs could 'accelerate' move for amazing £60m Werner upgrade

With less than a month until the transfer window closes for Premier League clubs, Tottenham Hotspur still have work to do. The signings of Archie Gray and Yang Min-Hyeok are promising for the future, but the renewal of Timo Werner’s loan is the only other significant addition so far, leaving the first team largely unchanged.

However, it appears that Daniel Levy and his team are working to bring in players who can elevate the squad. Recent reports suggest that Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto could be the next major signing for Spurs, offering a potential upgrade on Werner.

According to transfers expert Fabrizio Romano on Playback, Tottenham have maintained their interest in Neto, who is “highly rated” by the club. The deal could be costly, as the Portuguese international is valued at £60 million by Wolves, but his talent might justify the expense.

Comparing Neto to Werner, Neto comes out on top in terms of output. Last season, Neto scored three goals and provided 11 assists in 24 appearances, averaging a goal involvement every 1.71 games. Werner, on the other hand, scored two goals and provided three assists in 14 appearances for Spurs, averaging a goal involvement every 2.8 games.

Neto also excels in key metrics such as non-penalty goals plus assists, key passes, passes into the final third, and successful take-ons. While Werner leads in some areas like non-penalty expected goals plus assists and passing accuracy, Neto’s overall performance is superior.

One concern with Neto is his injury record, as he missed 23 games last season. However, with several wingers already at Tottenham, manager Ange Postecoglou could afford to rest Neto when necessary to keep him fresh for important matches.

Ultimately, if Spurs want to improve their chances of securing Champions League football next season, they need to strengthen their first team before the transfer window closes. Adding Neto, despite his high price tag, could be the key to achieving that goal.
