Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to further strengthen their squad before the summer transfer window closes later this month.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have already signed Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, and they have an agreement in principle to sign South Korean attacker Min-hyeok Yang from Gangwok FC, although he will remain at his current club until January 2025.
The North London club hopes to improve on their fifth-place finish from last season and are actively searching the transfer market for reinforcements.
Manchester United’s Scott McTominay has been linked with a move to Tottenham, with the Scottish midfielder also attracting interest from Fulham.
Another target for Tottenham is Federico Chiesa. The winger has fallen out of favor under new Juventus boss Thiago Motta despite once being considered a ‘world-class’ talent in Italy. However, a well-known football agent has made a discouraging claim about Spurs’ pursuit of the Italian international.
David Lavelle, who works directly with football clubs and heads the agency 365footballmanagement, believes Chiesa is an option for Tottenham. However, with Juventus demanding £35m for a player whose contract expires next summer, he doubts interested clubs will meet this valuation.
Speaking to Bianconeri News, he said: “Who among the big clubs has £35m in the Premier League to buy him? It will be tough to sell him. Tottenham could be an option for Chiesa, but they have quite a few players in that position. However, I doubt they will pay £35m.”
Do Tottenham really need Federico Chiesa?
Chiesa was dropped for Juventus’ recent pre-season friendly against Brest and is unlikely to play for the club again as he seeks a move before the transfer deadline.
Last season, he predominantly played as a second striker under Massimiliano Allegri, but his preferred position is on the right flank, where he featured for Italy at Euro 2024.
Tottenham already have Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson for the right flank, while Heung-min Son and Manor Solomon are options for the left flank.
Postecoglou’s side also have Richarlison and Timo Werner to lead the attack. Additionally, there are reports that Tottenham want to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, with the striker believed to have a £65m release clause.
Given the options Tottenham already have, it might be wiser for them to invest elsewhere rather than pursuing Chiesa.
