The incident took place on October 28 last year when a group of Leeds United fans clashed with Huddersfield Town supporters on Wellington Street in the city center, ahead of the Championship match at Elland Road.
During efforts by police officers to separate the two groups, 19-year-old Thomas Stiff punched an officer in the face before fleeing the scene.
Stiff, from Windy Hill Lane in Marske-by-the-Sea, was later identified and charged with assaulting an emergency worker.
He appeared before Leeds Magistrates last Friday (August 2) and was issued an order prohibiting him from attending any football match in the UK that falls under the Football Spectators Act 1989.
Stiff was also fined £400, ordered to pay £85 in court costs, and £100 in compensation.
Chief Superintendent Russ Hughes of West Yorkshire Police stated, “Assaults on our officers will not be tolerated, and we will always take decisive action in such cases. Due to his actions, Stiff is not only facing financial penalties but is also banned from supporting his football team for the foreseeable future.”
