Jamie Donley is among the young talents tipped for significant success, having earned substantial playing time during the recent pre-season. John Wenham, the owner of the well-regarded Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, believes Donley could see some senior minutes at N17 next season. Wenham advises the player to stay with the club at least until January before considering a loan move.
Several EFL League One and Championship clubs, including Birmingham City, are reportedly interested in taking Donley on loan, according to Tom Barclay of The Sun. Birmingham’s manager, Chris Davies, who worked with Donley last year as Ange Postecoglou’s assistant, is particularly keen to bring the 19-year-old to his squad.
Despite this interest, Wenham suggests that Donley should prioritize staying at Tottenham and focus on earning first-team minutes during the first half of the upcoming season.
Spurs face a decision on Donley amid loan interest
In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham stated:
“Initially, I thought Donley should go out on loan. However, I’ve changed my mind. He played a lot of minutes in pre-season, which shows the coaching staff have confidence in him. I think he’d benefit from staying with the first team, at least until January, and then reassessing. He’s made great progress, and sometimes better loan opportunities arise in January. If he sticks around, I expect he’ll get plenty of first-team minutes.”
Donley has had numerous opportunities in the pre-season, excelling in a left-back role that is different from his usual position. His versatility would make him a valuable asset if he stays with the club next season.
