Marc Guehi was active on social media as news broke of Newcastle United’s latest bid for the Crystal Palace defender. The Magpies have been in negotiations to sign the 24-year-old after having two previous offers rejected by Palace last week. However, Newcastle returned with a third offer, reportedly worth £55 million with add-ons that could push the deal past £60 million, according to iNews.
The improved bid was made over the weekend but only became public on Monday afternoon, with Sky Sports News first reporting the story. Hours later, Guehi appeared unfazed by the reports, posting on Instagram.
In his post, Guehi shared photos of himself back in action for Palace, captioned “back at it.” This comes after the former Chelsea player made his first pre-season appearance, playing an hour in Palace’s 1-1 draw against Nantes on Sunday.
Like Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier, Guehi was given extra time off after reaching the Euro 2024 final with England. Gordon played 45 minutes in Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Girona on Friday, while Trippier played 70 minutes in United’s victory over Stade Brestois a day later.
Newcastle will be hoping to finalize the transfer before this weekend’s Premier League opener at home against Southampton. Meanwhile, Palace will kick off their season away to Brentford.
Oliver Glasner’s side has been scouting other center-backs in case Guehi departs, with Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix, Bayer Leverkusen’s Odilon Kossounou, and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah reportedly on their shortlist.
