This is why Jeff Stelling has predicted a positive season for Newcastle United.
Speaking on TalkSPORT (9:43am, 13/08/24), Stelling explained why he believes the Magpies will finish fourth.
“Last season, Newcastle had many injuries, like several other clubs,” he said. “But if they can stay relatively injury-free this season and without the burden of Champions League football, and with the potential signing of Guehi, I’m predicting Newcastle will finish in fourth place.”
Newcastle Stronger Even Without Major Signings
Stelling’s prediction is ambitious, given the high level of competition in the Premier League. The battle for a top-four spot and Champions League qualification will be fierce, with the traditional ‘big six’ and Aston Villa all in contention.
However, Newcastle is well-positioned, even without significant new additions. They are expected to be stronger than last season, especially with Sandro Tonali’s suspension nearing its end. Tonali will miss only the first two Premier League games, returning against Tottenham Hotspur on September 1st. His return will be like a new signing for the team.
Moreover, there’s much more to come from Harvey Barnes, whose first season at Newcastle was marred by injury, though he has shown great form in pre-season.
The same goes for Lewis Hall, who has improved significantly since his arrival a year ago. Joe Willock is also back from injury and is another player who can make a significant impact for the Magpies.
There are many reasons for optimism, even without Marc Guehi’s arrival. His addition would be a boost, and even more so if Newcastle could also bring in a new winger.
