“He has such potential which makes him the best”- West Ham In Verge land a “Sensational” Barcelona full-back Lionel Messi once called ‘one of the best in the world’ after talks with Spurs fell through.

West Ham United could secure a top-tier full-back this summer after talks between Tottenham and the player failed to move forward. The summer transfer window has been busy for West Ham, with manager Julen Lopetegui already bringing in eight new signings.

The club is now focused on offloading players, including Greek center-back Konstantinos Mavropanos, to balance the books. However, it would be premature to assume that West Ham’s recruitment is over for the summer. There could still be one or two more arrivals at the London Stadium in the coming weeks.

It appears that Lopetegui is targeting another full-back, and a highly versatile one at that.

West Ham could potentially outmaneuver Tottenham in signing Sergi Roberto. According to Mundo Deportivo (print edition August 14th, page 6), West Ham has stepped in to sign Roberto on a free transfer after his talks with Tottenham stalled. This opens the door for the Hammers to make a move.

West Ham has been linked with the Spanish full-back throughout the summer, and he would be an outstanding addition to Lopetegui’s squad. Lionel Messi, who played alongside Roberto at Barcelona, once praised the 32-year-old, saying, “You have become one of the best full-backs in the world.”

Roberto, who spent 14 years in Barcelona’s first team after graduating from La Masia, was indeed world-class during his time at the club. Despite his age, Roberto could still be a valuable signing for West Ham on a short-term deal, possibly for two years.

The Spaniard is capable of playing as a right-back or in his original position as a central midfielder. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka already added to the squad, Lopetegui still seeks more competition in the right-back position and is also in need of central midfield reinforcements.

Signing Sergi Roberto on a free transfer would address both needs and provide a cost-effective solution. With his exceptional technical skills, decent pace, and contributions at both ends of the pitch, Roberto would be a smart addition to West Ham’s squad this summer.
