Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has praised Dominic Solanke as a “huge” and “great” addition to the team following his transfer from Bournemouth. Solanke’s move to Spurs was officially confirmed on Saturday, with the 26-year-old joining for a club-record £65 million, including add-ons.
After signing, Solanke was introduced to a sold-out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the club’s 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich in their final pre-season match. When asked about Solanke after the game, Son expressed his excitement about the new signing.
“Dom is a huge signing for us,” Son commented. “He had a fantastic season at Bournemouth, scoring 19 goals, and I think he’s a great fit for us. I haven’t had the chance to train with him yet due to the game, but I’m looking forward to playing alongside him and believe he’ll help our team.”
Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou also shared his thoughts on Solanke’s arrival, noting how crucial the signing was for the team. “He was a player I was very eager to bring in,” Postecoglou said. “It took some time, but I think he’s a great fit for where we are right now. We’re a bit light in the attacking third, and he brings qualities we’ve been missing, especially when Richarlison was out last year.”
Several credible reports have confirmed that Tottenham is finalizing the deal for Solanke, making him their second signing of the summer transfer window, following the acquisition of midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds United.
Bournemouth agreed to sell Solanke for a club-record fee, surpassing the £41 million Manchester City paid for Nathan Ake in 2021. If the £65 million release clause is met, Solanke would become Tottenham’s most expensive signing, surpassing the £60 million spent on Richarlison in 2022.
The Athletic reports that Solanke is eager to join Tottenham and has already agreed to personal terms. Postecoglou has emphasized his need for a new striker following Harry Kane’s departure and believes Solanke fits the mold of the player they need.
“It’s important to find the right type of striker for how we play,” Postecoglou said. “We have specific demands in terms of physical and technical attributes, and I believe Solanke meets those requirements. Strengthening this area of the squad is a priority for us.”
