Tottenham Hotspur are now shifting their attention to player departures after securing five new signings this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge.
Last week, manager Ange Postecoglou achieved his main objective by signing Dominic Solanke in a big-money transfer from Bournemouth. The squad has also been strengthened with the additions of Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, and Lucas Bergvall.
The 2024/25 season will be Postecoglou’s second at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, following his arrival last summer. In the previous season, Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League, securing a spot in the Europa League for the upcoming campaign.
Focus on Outgoings
Four players are likely to depart
With the influx of new signings, Bridge reports that Tottenham’s focus will now turn to outgoings as the transfer deadline approaches. Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon are expected to leave on permanent deals.
Additionally, young talents Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips are likely to go out on loan to gain more first-team experience. This would add to the 11 players Spurs have already parted ways with this summer, some only temporarily.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Bridge said:
“The focus in the next few days will be on outgoings, especially Lo Celso, who could fetch a decent transfer fee. I don’t see him as a Postecoglou player.
“Reguilon also doesn’t have a future at Spurs, and a few younger players like Devine and Phillips are likely to go out on loan. While Postecoglou has landed his key target in Solanke and brought in a winger, I still think there could be a couple more moves before the deadline.”
Unai Emery Targets Spurs Midfielder
Aston Villa interested in Lo Celso
Lo Celso is one of the players expected to leave before the transfer window closes, and he’s attracting plenty of interest. Reports from Spain indicate that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is keen on signing the 28-year-old midfielder.
According to Fichajes, Villa are looking to further strengthen their midfield, despite already acquiring Amadou Onana from Everton. Emery believes Lo Celso would fit well into his system and style of play.
Emery and Lo Celso are familiar with each other, having worked together at both Villarreal and Paris Saint-Germain. With just one year left on his contract at Tottenham, the club is reportedly seeking a fee of at least £13 million.
Villa could face competition from Roma and Real Betis for Lo Celso’s signature, but the opportunity to play Champions League football under Emery might sway the player’s decision. Lo Celso joined Tottenham in 2020 following an initial loan spell.
If Lo Celso departs, Spurs may look to replace him with Italy international Manuel Locatelli, with a reported £20 million offer being prepared for Juventus.
