Sky Bet has significantly reduced the odds of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite joining Liverpool before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Everton has already turned down two bids from Manchester United for the young defender this summer.
Branthwaite was one of the standout performers during Everton’s difficult 2023/24 season, following his return from a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven. He started 35 of 38 Premier League games last season, showcasing his talent.
His strong performances under Sean Dyche earned him a spot in England’s provisional squad for the European Championships. However, Branthwaite, along with high-profile players like Jack Grealish of Manchester City and Tottenham’s James Maddison, did not make Gareth Southgate’s final squad.
Despite missing out on the tournament, Branthwaite remained a hot topic in the transfer market. Manchester United, during their first transfer window under INEOS ownership, made two unsuccessful bids for the defender, both of which fell short of Everton’s valuation.
Now, Sky Bet has shortened the odds on Branthwaite leaving Goodison Park this summer, pricing him at 2/1 for a potential move to Liverpool. Manchester United is priced at 3/1, with Manchester City (4/1) and Real Madrid (12/1) also listed as possible destinations for the England international.
However, it’s important to note that no credible reports currently link Branthwaite, who is under contract with Everton until 2027, to a move to Liverpool. Betting odds often shift when there is a high volume of bets, making the market less profitable.
Last October, former Liverpool forward and ECHO columnist John Aldridge urged his old club to consider signing Branthwaite after an impressive performance in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Aldridge wrote in his ECHO column, “I don’t want to upset any Evertonians by saying this, but whether Liverpool would buy from Everton is another matter, as it rarely happens. However, I believe Branthwaite has the potential to become a key figure and a regular starter for England.”
He also noted that Jurgen Klopp mentioned Branthwaite in his pre-match press conference, indicating that other clubs, including Manchester United, are interested in him. However, it will ultimately be up to Everton to decide Branthwaite’s future.
Aldridge added, “Liverpool were in the market for a left-sided centre-back during the summer transfer window, which they didn’t sign in the end. If they were to pursue Branthwaite, it would likely require a significant fee due to the English premium we often see in transfers. Moving to Liverpool would be a tough decision for him, but I believe he has a bright future ahead.”
