A significant blow for Spurs: Tottenham’s key player was involved in a severe collision during the second half of their match against Leicester, resulting in the 27-year-old needing oxygen.

Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur required oxygen after a severe mid-air collision left him on the ground. The midfielder fell following a corner in the second half of the match against Leicester City, prompting both teams to urgently call for medical assistance. Bentancur was later stretchered off after treatment, having apparently clashed heads with Leicester winger Abdul Fatawu. Images revealed a cut above Bentancur’s eye, and it seemed he was briefly knocked out.

Following an eight-minute delay, Bentancur was carried off the field with oxygen support. Medical staff from both teams attended to him, and players gathered in concern. According to Sky Sports, Bentancur was conscious and speaking in the dressing room afterward. Tottenham’s team doctor confirmed he would be closely monitored under the Premier League’s concussion protocols.

Spurs issued a supportive message on social media: “We’re all with you, Lolo,” and Leicester also sent their best wishes: “Sending our best wishes to you, Rodrigo.”

Fatawu appeared unharmed by the incident, and Bentancur was substituted by Archie Gray, who made his debut for Ange Postecoglou’s team. The Spurs midfielder received applause from all corners of the King Power Stadium. Bentancur had previously suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament at Leicester in February 2023, which sidelined him for eight months.

Tottenham initially led with Pedro Porro’s header from a James Maddison cross, but Leicester equalized through Jamie Vardy 12 minutes after the break. Fatawu assisted Vardy’s goal from the back post.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with nine minutes of injury time added by referee Chris Kavanagh following Bentancur’s injury. Both teams remain mid-table in the Premier League after this round of games.
