One surprising decision from Postecoglou is the decision to bench Dejan Kulusevski. Spurs confirmed their starting lineup via their official X account on August 19, leaving fans frustrated by Kulusevski’s omission. The Swedish forward had a strong pre-season and was one of Tottenham’s standout performers in their 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich on August 10, scoring twice and contributing in various areas on the pitch.
Despite Dominic Solanke’s expected start up front, it was unexpected to see Brennan Johnson preferred over Kulusevski on the right. Johnson had a quiet game against Bayern, managing just 18 touches and failing to deliver an accurate cross or key pass.
Postecoglou will need to see more from Johnson against Leicester if his decision to leave out Kulusevski is to be validated.
