“If he can’t get the rid of Palace share then he can’t buy Everton”- Stefan Borson drops Textor takeover verdict
John Textor may need to secure third-party financing to complete his purchase of Everton after being granted exclusivity to finalize the takeover.
This perspective comes from finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the American businessman likely lacks the financial resources to complete the deal on his own.
According to a report from The Athletic on August 15, Textor has entered an exclusive period to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 percent stake in Everton. However, a potential hurdle is Textor’s 45 percent ownership stake in Crystal Palace, as Premier League rules prohibit owning two clubs in the same division.
Everton has already experienced the collapse of two takeover bids in recent months, with 777 Partners and The Friedkin Group both failing to finalize a deal.
John Textor Must Sell Crystal Palace Shares to Buy Everton
Borson explained that Textor is unlikely to sell his shares in Crystal Palace to the other owners at Selhurst Park due to the current terms of the deal being offered. He told Football Insider: “It seems that selling his Crystal Palace shares is necessary, but it won’t be straightforward because there are many clubs available, and it’s only a minority stake.
“We know he could sell them to the other owners of Palace, but reports suggest the amount they are willing to pay is close to what Textor originally paid for them. That doesn’t fully reflect the progress Palace has made during that time, so he’s probably reluctant to agree to that deal.
“If he can’t sell his Palace shares, then he can’t buy Everton. And even if he does, he doesn’t seem to have the resources to complete the deal himself.
“It seems likely that he will need to bring in third-party financing to complete the transaction, raising questions about how this will work given the complexity of Everton’s situation.
“But, as always, we’ll have to wait and see.”
