However, after agreeing on a £30 million deal for Joachim Andersen to join Fulham, one-half of the defensive partnership that has been central to Selhurst Park in recent years is already on his way out.
The situation could escalate further, as Newcastle United remains keen on signing Marc Guehi, despite Crystal Palace recently rejecting a £65 million bid from them.
Reports now reveal how Crystal Palace is privately feeling about the potential sale of Guehi to Newcastle.
Newcastle has been persistent in their pursuit of Guehi, with several bids already turned down for the highly-regarded defender. Discussions between the two clubs are ongoing, and the Magpies remain hopeful of completing a deal, with Andersen’s sale having no impact on Guehi’s future.
According to Sky Sports’ Newcastle reporter, Keith Downie, negotiations are progressing, and there’s cautious optimism that an agreement could be reached. Crystal Palace is reportedly acknowledging that selling Guehi this summer could be advantageous, as his value is at its peak.
While losing both Guehi and Andersen would be far from ideal, it could be the right move for Crystal Palace, given the significant offers on the table. Guehi is an excellent defender but not irreplaceable—Oliver Glasner has already shown that last season by using players like Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne in central defense.
A fee exceeding £65 million could provide Crystal Palace with the funds to make several important signings in the final week of the transfer window, including new defenders, wingbacks, and potentially a midfielder.
With this in mind, it might be wise for Steve Parish to finalize the deal for Guehi, allowing the club to focus on strengthening other areas of the squad.
