Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a critical error that led to Spurs’ second goal, which effectively sealed the outcome. Normally dependable, Pickford hesitated while passing to a teammate, allowing Son to intercept and score into an open net.
Nizaar Kinsella reported on BBC Sport that Pickford quickly apologized to the away fans and his teammates, demonstrating his confidence and professionalism. Despite this, Spurs fans mocked him with ironic chants of “England’s number one.”
Kinsella noted: “Jordan Pickford rarely makes such significant mistakes, but this one could cost Everton the match. The rain-soaked pitch contributed to his error, allowing Son Heung-min to outpace him and score. Nevertheless, Pickford’s prompt apology showed his class, though Spurs fans responded with jeers and ironic chants.”
