Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou will be without £65 million striker Dominic Solanke for today’s (Saturday) match against Everton. Solanke, who joined from Bournemouth, injured his ankle during the game against Leicester City on Monday, forcing Spurs to make some tough decisions regarding their attacking options.
Son Heung-min and Richarlison are both contenders for the center-forward role against an Everton side still reeling from their heavy defeat to Brighton last weekend.
Although there are rumors that Spurs are seeking a new backup goalkeeper, it will not affect Guglielmo Vicario’s immediate position, as the Italian is expected to continue his solid performances against Everton.
Defense: Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie
Postecoglou has consistently used this back four, which balances aggressive attacking with solid defensive work. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are the preferred central defenders due to their pace and aggression.
Radu Dragusin is eager for more playing time this season, but the starting pair is likely to remain unchanged if they stay fit. Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are set to continue as right and left backs.
Defensive Midfield: Gray, Sarr
Postecoglou faces a key decision in midfield. Pape Matar Sarr, at just 21, is a reliable option, but the spot alongside him is uncertain following Rodrigo Bentancur’s head injury against Leicester.
Yves Bissouma, suspended for the opening match due to a video showing him inhaling laughing gas, will return to the squad. However, he may have to wait behind new signing Archie Gray if Postecoglou maintains his strict stance.
Attacking Midfield: Johnson, Maddison, Son
James Maddison will remain in the No.10 role, while the setup of the front four could vary. Brennan Johnson, who started against Leicester, is expected to retain his place on the right, ahead of Dejan Kulusevski.
On the left, it will be either Son or Richarlison, with the other playing centrally. Son is effective centrally but excels when cutting in from the wings.
Striker: Richarlison
Richarlison will lead the attack in Solanke’s absence. This presents a significant opportunity for the Brazilian to demonstrate his value, especially amid ongoing transfer speculation and the potential for a season largely spent on the bench if Solanke regains form.
