Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has come under harsh criticism from Michael Dawson for his “absolute howler” during the Blues’ 4-0 defeat to Tottenham.
Sean Dyche’s team continued their winless start to the Premier League season with the loss in North London on Saturday (24 August), as goals from Yves Bissouma, Son Heung-min, and Cristian Romero sealed the victory for Spurs.
While the entire Everton side struggled, Sky Sports pundit Dawson particularly criticized Pickford for being too slow with the ball leading up to Son’s goal midway through the first half.
On Sky Sports Football, Dawson remarked: “Oh my word, I mentioned how important it was for Jordan Pickford to make saves. What an absolute howler. Dixon threw the ball back from the halfway line to James Tarkowski, who then played it back to Pickford. He seemed to have all the time in the world, but Son closed him down quickly. Pickford took a touch, Son intercepted it, and then scored.”

Pickford had appeared to reduce such errors last season, but he faltered in the match against Tottenham. After making several key saves early on, his hesitation with the ball allowed Son to score easily.
If Everton hopes to avoid relegation, they cannot afford frequent mistakes like this. Some pundits speculate that Pickford might seek a move away from Goodison Park if the team remains in the relegation zone.
However, unless he addresses these errors, finding a new club could be challenging.
