Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison is the latest pundit to weigh in on the ongoing speculation about Marc Guehi’s potential transfer to Newcastle.
Guehi, a highly-rated England defender, has been frequently linked with a move to the Magpies this summer. Newcastle has submitted four bids for the 24-year-old, with their most recent offer reportedly at £65 million. However, Crystal Palace is said to be holding out for around £70 million.
Despite these unsuccessful bids, Morrison is confident that the deal will be finalized soon. Speaking to Sky Sports, he predicted Guehi will be a Newcastle player by next week, saying:
“He will be at Newcastle next week, 100%. Marc Guehi will be a Newcastle player next week. I think it will definitely happen. They’re not far apart on the deal. Eddie Howe’s top target is Guehi; he has emphasized to his board to secure him. With two years left on his contract at Palace, £70 million seems reasonable for someone of Guehi’s quality.”
Eddie Howe has reportedly made Guehi his top transfer priority for the summer. With only two years remaining on Guehi’s contract, his potential move has become a central focus for Howe and the Newcastle board.
