Everton striker Neal Maupay has criticized fans who waited at the train station to abuse players after their defeat to Tottenham.
With Everton suffering back-to-back losses at the start of the season for the third consecutive year, the team is already facing a crisis. Their opening game saw them lose 3-0 to Brighton, with goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck, and Simon Adingra, and a red card for Ashley Young.
The situation worsened as Tottenham, led by Ange Postecoglou, defeated Everton 4-0 on Saturday, increasing the pressure on manager Sean Dyche. These early setbacks have left Everton at the bottom of the Premier League table, prompting some fans to wait at Euston Station to voice their frustrations.
Maupay, who was among the players targeted by the abusive supporters, responded on X, saying: “Imagine if it was normal in any other job to face abuse like this. Hanging around a train station to scream at men who are trying their best!”
Dyche acknowledged the need for Everton to stop conceding easy goals, stating, “You can’t afford to gift goals to teams of this quality. We gave away two goals last week and at least one today. If you don’t do the basics, you’ll get punished.”
He added, “We need to be more clinical and make the most of our chances. It’s about taking those critical moments, which separates great players from the rest.”
