Leeds United’s initial £13 million offer for Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer has been rejected, and the Blades have revealed their asking price.
Leeds are aiming for a strong finish to the summer transfer window, and fans are expecting significant new signings to secure a top-two spot. Although Leeds secured a crucial win over Sheffield Wednesday, it hasn’t lessened the need for new players.
According to The Star, Leeds made a £13 million bid for Hamer, which was quickly dismissed by Sheffield United as far below their expectations. Hamer was previously a target for Leeds when he was at Coventry City before moving to Sheffield United.
Journalist Alan Nixon reports that Sheffield United’s valuation for Hamer is now around £18 million, which is £5 million more than Leeds’ current offer. Nixon also notes that it is unlikely Leeds will make another attempt, given their first bid was outright rejected.
Hamer is considered one of the top players in the Championship, and securing him would require meeting Sheffield United’s valuation. With Leeds and Sheffield United being direct rivals, the Blades are likely to resist selling Hamer at a discounted price. However, the £13 million offer might prompt reconsideration of the asking price.
