Is Marc Guehi about to make the move to Newcastle United?
Reports indicate that Newcastle’s fifth bid for the England defender might soon be successful. According to i-news, a deal seems imminent after extensive negotiations on Tuesday narrowed the gap between Newcastle’s offer of £65 million (including £5 million in potential future add-ons) and Crystal Palace’s asking price of £70 million (including potential add-ons).
Newcastle’s revised bid, which falls between these amounts, is expected to be acceptable to Palace. Additionally, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Crystal Palace have agreed on a deal with Wolfsburg for defender Maxence Lacroix, worth around £18 million, including a guaranteed fee of £15.2 million.
This new development could be the final factor prompting Guehi’s transfer to Newcastle, with the transfer deadline looming at 11pm on Friday. Ornstein notes that while personal terms with Lacroix are still to be finalized, it’s unlikely to be an issue, given the higher wages in the Premier League compared to the Bundesliga.
David Ornstein’s report from August 28, 2024, states:
“Crystal Palace have agreed to sign Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg for an initial €18 million (£15.2 million; $20 million), with up to €3 million in add-ons. The Premier League side is yet to finalize personal terms with Lacroix. This deal comes amid ongoing speculation about Marc Guehi’s future at Palace, with Newcastle United having made several bids for the England international.”
