Everton have secured an obligation-to-buy clause in their loan agreement for Lyon midfielder Orel Mangala, according to David Anderson.
The Daily Mirror’s northern football writer shared on his X account on August 28 that Everton will be required to purchase Mangala permanently once the loan expires next summer. Initially, Fabrizio Romano had reported that it was merely an option for Everton, but the latest update suggests Mangala might have played his final game for Lyon.
Mangala is set to become Everton’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window as the club continues its recruitment efforts.
Everton appeared to be nearing a quiet end to their transfer activity, but a poor start to the Premier League season seems to have prompted manager Sean Dyche and his team to act. Mangala, who has Premier League experience from his 18-month stint with Nottingham Forest and a subsequent loan to Lyon that became permanent this summer, will now leave France in the same window.
Additionally, young winger Ernest Nuamah is strongly linked with a move to Everton, as reported by L’Equipe. With Jake O’Brien’s permanent move from Lyon to Goodison Park also factored in, it seems Everton’s exclusive takeover talks with Lyon’s owner, John Textor, are impacting their transfer dealings, creating a beneficial connection between the two clubs.
Dyche, who is currently short on midfield options, would benefit from Mangala’s experience in the Premier League as a replacement for Amadou Onana, although the financial aspects of the deal could pose challenges.
