Exclusive: Tottenham's Young Star Excels on Loan at Espanyol and Earns Nomination for La Liga's Under-23 Player of the Month Award, Alongside Barcelona's Lamine Yamal

Tottenham Hotspur have several promising players on loan as part of their strategy to nurture talent and provide Ange Postecoglou with options for the future.

Among them is Alejo Veliz, who joined Spurs from Rosario Central in Argentina in 2023 and is currently on loan at Espanyol in Spain.

Veliz’s transfer to Tottenham cost around £13 million, reflecting the high regard in which he was held by the club and other interested parties. The 20-year-old has made eight competitive appearances for Spurs and spent the latter half of last season on loan at Sevilla, where he had limited playing time.

However, his situation at Espanyol is more favorable. Veliz has started all four of his team’s La Liga matches so far, scoring once. His performances have earned him a nomination for the La Liga Under-23 Player of the Month award, where he is competing against Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Real Valladolid’s Raul Moro, Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios, and Getafe’s Christantus Uche.

Veliz’s first La Liga goal was particularly memorable. On August 31, during a match against Real Vallecano at Cornella-El Prat, he scored a dramatic late winner. As the game neared its end with the score tied 1-1, Veliz capitalized on a rebound from an Irvin Cardona shot, taking a touch and curling the ball past a defender into the net, sparking jubilation among Espanyol fans.

After the match, Veliz expressed his gratitude to his supporters and team, acknowledging a challenging year and thanking his family, girlfriend, coaching staff, and teammates for their support.
