Jack Clarke’s future at the Stadium of Light had been under heavy transfer speculation for some time, and last month, Ipswich successfully lured him away from Sunderland with an initial £15m agreement.
The 23-year-old winger had been outstanding for Sunderland over the past two years, scoring 15 goals in the Championship last season and leaving a significant gap in Regis Le Bris’ squad.
However, Sunderland has started the 2024/25 season in exceptional form, winning all four of their opening matches before the September international break and sitting atop the Championship table.
Amidst this success, Romaine Mundle has emerged as a standout performer, scoring in his last two league games for Sunderland. Since joining the club in January, Mundle’s performances have provided hope that Clarke’s departure might be effectively managed without major expenditure.
Carlton Palmer has praised Mundle’s early-season displays, suggesting he could potentially match or even surpass Clarke’s impact if he maintains his current form.
