I was a "SECRET" known to no one 'I was Desperate to sign him a year ago"- Daniel Farke’s revealed a SHOCKING secret transfer gamble that pays off with major Leeds United signing!"

Ahead of Leeds United’s match against Burnley, Daniel Farke had a significant revelation: he finally secured Ao Tanaka, a player he had pursued for over a year. Despite initial attempts to sign him last summer, Farke was only able to bring Tanaka to Elland Road last month.

The 26-year-old Japanese midfielder fits many of Farke’s criteria and, although he may not debut today, the Leeds boss is enthusiastic about Tanaka’s future. Last season, Tanaka impressed with Fortuna Düsseldorf, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 30 league matches.

“Ao is someone I’ve long admired,” Farke revealed. “If I let you in on a secret, I tried to sign him even 12 months ago because I was so eager to get him. I had been following him closely, even before the scouting team was aware of him.”

Farke noted Tanaka’s impressive qualities, both from his time in Germany’s Bundesliga and the second tier. “He’s a great age, very tidy on the ball with excellent passing skills. He’s capable of scoring and assisting from the number eight role. He’s adept at making crucial passes and fits perfectly into our style of dominating possession.”

Tanaka’s eagerness to join Leeds has also impressed Farke. “He sees this move as a significant opportunity and a great honor. Although he’s yet to play at the top level for his club, his experience with the Japanese national team is valuable. We’ll give him time to adjust, and his early performances are promising.”

Farke was pleased with Tanaka’s initial cameo, though he cautioned against overinterpreting it. “The game was already decided when he came on, but he demonstrated good passing choices and skills. He’s also a great character with a good sense of humor, making him a valuable addition to the team. It’s too early to say if he will be the best midfielder in the league, as he has yet to make a full appearance.”

Farke also highlighted Joe Rothwell, who joined Leeds in July but has yet to make a significant impact. “There’s strong competition in midfield, and Joe Rothwell deserves mention. He’s been consistent with his passing and is a key player in our midfield alongside Tanaka, Ethan Ampadu, and Ilia Gruev. Our midfield is looking very strong.”
