"Rising Sunderland Star Poised for Major Breakthrough as Le Bris Hints at Significant Role Ahead!"

Tommy Watson has continued his impressive form from the 2023/24 season into the new campaign. Régis Le Bris has indicated that Watson is nearing a place in Sunderland’s senior squad but may need to remain patient for his opportunities.

Watson has excelled for Sunderland’s U21 team in 2024, including scoring an equalizer in Wednesday’s match against Athletic Club de Bilbao B. Despite deadline-day interest from Brighton & Hove Albion, Sunderland rejected the bids, viewing Watson as a key future asset.

Although Sunderland boasts several options on the wings, even with Jack Clarke’s recent departure to Ipswich Town, the 18-year-old remains in Le Bris’ plans and has been named on the bench for many fixtures this season. Le Bris notes that the upcoming busier schedule will likely offer Watson more chances.

“We have just three games in September, but the schedule intensifies in October, November, and December,” Le Bris explained. “Tommy is very close to joining the senior team. He’s made significant progress quickly, but he needs to integrate fully into our culture and understand our game model. He will get opportunities, especially during periods of heavy fixture congestion.”

Watson is anticipated to be part of the squad for Sunderland’s match against Plymouth on Saturday.
