Dominic Calvert-Lewin has urged Everton’s devoted supporters to remain patient, despite the team’s ongoing struggle with a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat. Calvert-Lewin, who scored his second goal in as many matches to give Everton a 2-0 lead at Aston Villa, watched as the team lost 3-2, repeating their previous error of squandering a lead, as they did against Bournemouth.
Speaking to fans, the 27-year-old said, “Stick with us. The traveling support was outstanding, as always. I understand their frustration because I share it, but we need to look at the positives from our recent performances. Although the start has been disappointing, it’s a long season, and I’m confident we’ll turn things around.”
Despite increasing his goal tally for the season, Calvert-Lewin missed a crucial opportunity to extend Everton’s lead against Villa when he was one-on-one with Emiliano Martinez, allowing Ezri Konsa to make a crucial tackle. He also hit the crossbar with a shot after Everton fell behind. The striker acknowledged the need for greater sharpness at both ends of the pitch.
“We’re really hurting,” Calvert-Lewin said. “It’s frustrating not to take points from the last two games. At this level, mistakes and lapses in concentration are punished. We need to stay focused for the full 90 minutes, maybe even longer. We have to accept responsibility and move on quickly, as we have another game on Tuesday.”
Calvert-Lewin noted that despite creating chances, including his own missed opportunities, there are positives to build on. He emphasized that maintaining concentration throughout the game is crucial to avoid conceding unnecessary goals.
Everton manager Sean Dyche has consistently emphasized that the final league table is what matters, and despite a rough start this season, Calvert-Lewin values Dyche’s steady approach. “He keeps his emotions in check, which helps the team stay balanced,” said Calvert-Lewin. “We’re professionals and must not dwell on setbacks. We have another game on Tuesday and another Premier League fixture next weekend, which we’re looking forward to with confidence.”
After battling injuries in previous seasons, Calvert-Lewin has found a good physical condition under Dyche’s management. He described himself as feeling “great,” and stressed the importance of consistently performing well and seizing opportunities to lead the team effectively.
