Reports suggest that Everton manager Sean Dyche may be considering dropping Jordan Pickford, the England number one, from the starting lineup.
Pickford, who started his career at Sunderland and spent a successful loan spell at Preston North End, moved to Everton in 2017 after Sunderland’s relegation to League One. The transfer, potentially worth £30 million with add-ons, marked a significant step in his career.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been a key player for Everton, helping them avoid relegation last season despite a heavy points deduction. However, Everton’s poor start to the current campaign, including blowing a 2-0 lead in their opening matches against Bournemouth and Aston Villa, has led to speculation about Pickford’s future.
According to Alan Nixon, Dyche is considering dropping Pickford if his form does not improve and is looking at Newcastle United’s Nick Pope, whom he previously managed at Burnley, as a potential replacement.
Pickford has amassed 75 clean sheets in 290 Premier League appearances for both Everton and Sunderland and has been instrumental in Everton’s recent battles against relegation.
