Romaine Mundle has recently made a significant impact at Sunderland. Manager Regis Le Bris praised Mundle for his contributions to the first team at the Stadium of Light, while noting that the winger needs to focus on delivering consistent performances.
The 21-year-old has excelled at the start of the Championship season, netting three goals in his last three matches after stepping into the starting lineup following Jack Clarke’s transfer to Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
While some may find Mundle’s rise surprising, Le Bris always believed in his potential as a winger capable of dribbling and creating chances, as well as contributing defensively. On Sky Sport’s Essential EFL podcast, he remarked, “We knew he had the potential to excel in 1v1 situations and work well with the team, so his current form isn’t a shock.”
However, Le Bris emphasized that consistency is crucial. He stated, “The challenge for him is whether he can maintain this level of performance, which is a common hurdle for young players. I believe he can achieve it, but he needs to focus on that goal.”
He also compared Mundle to Clarke, stressing the importance of patience in Mundle’s development into a reliable match-winner. Le Bris said, “Jack Clarke eventually became consistent after developing his skills, and Romaine needs time to do the same. He shares the responsibility for that position, but we have other options. If he struggles to maintain his level, we can rely on those alternatives.”
