"If he can navigate this challenging phase and maintain a positive mindset while playing to his potential, he can become a SIGNIFICANT asset for us"- Ange Postecoglou highlighting the Spurs star who has the potential to be a "significant contributor"

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou believes that Brennan Johnson can become a “significant contributor” for the team if he can navigate a challenging period.

Johnson scored a last-minute winner in the Carabao Cup against Coventry, securing Spurs’ place in the last 16, although his celebrations were notably muted. The £47.5 million forward faced online abuse following his performance against Arsenal, prompting him to deactivate his Instagram account. Postecoglou defended Johnson and reaffirmed his support.

He stated, “With Brennan, I mentioned on Tuesday that he works hard on his game. As an attacking player, you’re often measured against certain expectations. If he can push through this period and stay positive, he can be a significant asset for us, and credit to him for scoring a great goal.”

Johnson’s goal, along with Djed Spence’s strong performance in the second half, were among the few positives in Spurs’ 2-1 win. However, concerns grew as attackers Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner both appeared to suffer muscle injuries.

Postecoglou noted, “Wilson’s injury looks quite serious, but we’ll have to wait and see. Timo’s issue might just be fatigue, but it’s unfortunate for both, especially since they play similar roles.”

Tottenham’s injury problems could open the door for young talent Mikey Moore to make his mark against Brentford. After a rocky start to the season, Spurs are eager to avoid further setbacks following their tense Carabao Cup victory, which has slightly eased the anxiety among fans.

“The way they play is effective and should yield good results,” Postecoglou added. “But in today’s world, people want instant success, which is quite unrealistic.”
