The forward received significant transfer interest over the summer but remained at Selhurst Park. Oliver Glasner has praised his star forward, Eberechi Eze, questioning, “Who is better?” The Crystal Palace player excelled against his former team, Queens Park Rangers, during Tuesday’s 2-1 EFL Cup third-round victory at Loftus Road, with Glasner noting that “everyone likes” him for his goal-scoring ability.
Eze attracted attention from top clubs like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal, but he ultimately stayed in Croydon, as his £68 million asking price likely deterred potential suitors.
So far this season, he has netted two goals and provided three assists in six matches, leading Glasner to anticipate renewed interest in January from Palace’s Premier League rivals.
Following the Eagles’ win over QPR, where Eze assisted Eddie Nketiah’s first goal and scored himself, Glasner remarked: “Ebs is always on the pitch because he can score goals.”
He added, “At times, we played a bit too complex with too many passes, which led to turnovers. While we were well-organized during transitions, we sometimes made it difficult for ourselves, especially against a defense packed with nine players in the box. At halftime, we advised that when faced with so many defenders, a shot could lead to a deflection—and luckily, that’s how it worked out.”
When asked about Eze’s performance this season, Glasner responded, “Who is a better player than Eze? For me, he’s absolutely top-tier. If he had a bit more luck, he could have five or six goals by now: he had a goal disallowed against Brentford, missed a big chance against West Ham, scored against Norwich, and found the net today.
“He’s always a threat due to his quality. His finish today was exceptional. However, there are still areas for improvement, such as getting more involved in our play and finding the right spaces. He’s a player who can always score, and that’s what everyone appreciates.”
