Newcastle United’s unbeaten streak this season has come to an abrupt end.
Despite entering Saturday’s Premier League match against Fulham without a loss, Newcastle has yet to truly impress this season. Eddie Howe’s team had managed three wins and a draw in their first four games, but that momentum faltered at Craven Cottage.
Howe’s squad faced a solid defeat against the West London team, even as they remained in contention late in the match. Nick Pope made several crucial saves, and Fulham also struck the woodwork, confirming their deserved victory.
It was a disappointing outcome, and many felt it was inevitable. Although Newcastle had been grinding out results, the Premier League’s ruthless nature doesn’t allow teams to just scrape by.
Key players have been underperforming, and Luke Edwards was particularly critical of Anthony Gordon. During the match, Edwards called out Gordon for his “shocking” body language and labeled the Fulham loss as the winger’s worst performance for the club.
Gordon has struggled to find his form this season, and Howe acknowledged that he has been dealing with fitness issues after returning late from England’s Euro 2024 final run. However, expectations remain high, especially given previous discussions about his potential departure from the club.
While Gordon is undoubtedly a talented player, Newcastle desperately needs him to step up.
